Frank Hilton Organisation to provide Speech Therapy

6 Jul
Frank Hilton Organization is proud to be the only provider of Speech Therapy for children with disabilities in Fiji and that is solely due to the efforts of our Speech Therapist, Terry Walker.
Terri Walker, is an extremely motivated and energetic person with vast experience in dealing with children with disabilities and also with the willingness to share her knowledge with all. She studied at the University of Queensland, pursing a Degree in Speech Therapy, in 1981.
Terry has been volunteering with the Frank Hilton Organization since 2016 which has assisted us to make huge strides in conducting a well-structured speech therapy programme for over 25 children with disabilities. The priority aim of Terrie’s engagement with the Frank Hilton organization is to train staff in Speech Therapy. Currently she has trained two staff members who work as speech therapy assistants under her guidance. This offers sustainability to the programme and also enables us to help many more children. In a country with no local Speech Therapist, what Terrie has accomplished through her training is invaluable.
She has worked with kids with intellectual disabilities, Speech impairments, Cerebral Palsy and also in general education. Terri has also worked with infants in the intensive care unit in Queensland and is part of the Cerebral Palsy league. She has her own Private Practice named the “Speech Therapy Time” at the Gap, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
She shares the same hope that Fiji will one day see home grown speech therapists and other allied health professionals who can provide services to children during the formative years and early childhood when they need it the most.
With so much on her hand she also loves to do crochet, weaving and being with Women's groups like “Rise beyond the Reefs” to understand more of Fiji and its culture and enjoy herself.
We are extremely fortunate to have Terrie with us and we are grateful for all the knowledge and expertise she shares with us and mostly the children under our care.
