The Frank HiIton Organisation participated in a Habitat for Humanity Fiji facilitated four day consultation on disability inclusive shelter in partnership Fiji Disable People's Federation and Pacific Disability Forum.
The different needs of adults and children with disabilities In housing and disaster were identified and possible recommendations and suggestions were discussed. The discussions and shelter modifications will be a part of a handbook the that will outline and assist shelter responders in building safe inclusive shelters before and after disasters and fill in shelter gaps in data collection, responding, correspondence, and inclusivity. The Frank Hilton Community Support unit presented on the real challenges faced by children with disabilities around shelter in Disaster Response and what responders need to know to respond to provide the appropriate Intervention.
